Dental Implant Restoration
Fifty years ago, Swedish scientist Per-Ingvar Branemark invented dental implants as artificial tooth replacements. Originally designed to address issues with loose dentures, advancements in engineering have expanded the applications of dental implants to include replacing missing or lost teeth. Today, dental implant techniques provide a range of solutions for tooth replacement.
- Single Tooth Replacement
- Anterior Tooth Replacement
- Posterior Tooth Replacement
- Multiple Teeth Replacement
- Implant-retained and Implant Supported
Modern dental implants are crafted to closely resemble the size and shape of a patient's natural tooth, providing comparable strength. Acting as an artificial root, the implant is surgically placed into the jawbone under local anesthesia and allowed to heal and integrate with the bone. Following this healing period, during which the jawbone bonds with the implant, the patient returns to the dental office to have the new tooth attached to the implant. This entire process usually takes between three to eight months to complete.
Post Implant Care
Maintaining proper oral hygiene is crucial for overall dental health, especially for those with dental implants. Neglecting to clean teeth and gums thoroughly can lead to bacteria attacking the mouth, causing swollen gums and gradual jaw bone recession. This can weaken the implants over time, potentially requiring their removal. It is advised for patients to see their dentist biannually to safeguard the health of their teeth and implants. With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime. In case of any emergencies, please contact us immediately.
